Commander's Message

Commander's Message for January/February 2016

Greetings All,

I hope all of you are faring well during this warmer than usual winter we are enjoying.  I just wanted to update you all on upcoming events. First let me say that I am looking into a way for us to have phone conferencing for meetings instead of having to travel out from place to place, hoping that will bring some more interest to people wanting to get involved a little more in the squadron. Once I have it set I will send out the updated information.

If any of you would be interested in joining a membership meeting over the phone that would be wonderful, all I will need is your contact information so I can add you into the program.

February 7th, Anthony Salzarulo will have the Boating Simulator available for use at the Shennecossett Yacht Club. Feel free to go down and take a whirl at using it.

2nd, February 26th is our Fall Council Meeting for District 1 and our Squadron is the host for this event. I am asking for people who would be interested in coming out to this other than our executive board to help with refreshment set up and clean up afterwards.

We will be having an Executive Board meeting on February 9th where we shall discuss who will be doing what for the council meeting.

March 5th at the Shenecossett Yacht Club our Squadron is putting on an ABC 3 Boating Course with the newest materials from the state in regards to Towing and Emily’s Law.  SEO Chris Jordan, AP, ASEO Anthony Salzarulo, JN, Harrison Jewett, SN will be teaching the course. It is an 8 hour course, if anyone is interested or knows of anyone who wants to get their boating license, they can attend on that day just by signing up on our Website. The cost is $80.00.

March 19th is our District 1 Spring Conference, and also there will be a seminar offered by our squadron on Tides and Currents at the Shenecossett Yacht Club

March 14th we will be holding our Annual Meeting (Conference by phone) to select our Slate of officers for the upcoming year. The officer nominations are as follows,

Kim T. Boswell, S Commander

Executive officer is Open

Christopher J. Jordan, AP Squadron Education Officer

Anthony Salzarulo, JN Assistant Squadron Education Officer/Treasurer

Harrison Jewett, SN Assistant Secretary/Vessel Safety Chairman/Website updater

Administrative Officer is Open

Members of the Executive Committee

P/C Henry Curtis, AP

We have scheduled a weather Seminar for April 2nd tentatively depending on if we can get an instructor.

April 10th is our 77th Change of Watch Ceremony, at 2 pm at the Groton Motor Inn. The cost of the meal will be $19.75 this year. The menu consists of your choice of Prime Steak, Baked stuffed Chicken, or Baked Scrod, mashed potatoes, seasoned grilled vegetables, salad, rolls and butter, and Chocolate Mousse for dessert. Please RSVP to me no later than April 2nd so I can give them a head count.

I am looking forward to hopefully speaking with you soon, or seeing you at seminars or the boating class.

Until next tide change, Be safe,

Kim T. Boswell, S

Commander
